Tutorial X: CD Production

Home | Tutorials

This tutorial will guide you through making the necessary number of copies of a CD and labeling it properly.
  1. Making Copies
    1. To the left of the Computer Monitors is a CD duplicator tower.

    2. Turn the unit on: there is a switch in the back about half-way down on the right side.
    3. Wait for it to warm up. When the Status Bar lights turn off, you can begin to copy CDs.
    4. Press the Copy button.
    5. The Master CD Tray will open.
    6. Put the Master Copy of the CD you are going to duplicate in this tray.
    7. Close the tray and the three Dupe Trays will open.
    8. Place Blank CDs in the Dupe Trays. (If you only want one copy then just put a blank CD in the top Tray and leave the other two empty)
    9. Close the three Dupe Trays.
    10. You can Monitor the status of your CD duplications with the Status Bar.
    11. When the Duplication is complete, the Dupe Trays will open. If one or more of them doesn't open and the machine beeps incessantly, then you have a "coaster" on your hands; the duplication process failed somehow and that CD is now unusable. You can trash it or keep it for an attractive coaster in your home or office. You will need to dupe another CD.
    12. Remove the Duped CDs.
    13. If you wish to make more copies then place Blank CDs in the trays and press the Copy button again.
    14. If not than remove the Master CD by pressing the eject button located just underneath the Master CD tray on the far right.
    15. Turn off the unit.
  2. Printing labels
    1. When at all possible, print a label on a department CD.
    2. On the PS computer, open the CD Printer Template. (Data Drive > Lab Documents > CD Covers > CD Printer Template)
    3. This will open the Template in Adobe Photoshop.
    4. Type in the necessary information.

      • Name of Performer / Ensemble
      • Instrument / Event (If Applicable)
      • Date of Performance
      • Location of Performance
      • Disc number (if there is more than one)
    5. If you do not know how to use Adobe please ask for assistance.
    6. Once you've designed the CD label it is time to print.
    7. If you turn the PS Rack on, the CD printer should automatically come on.
    8. From the Apple pull down menu, select Chooser.
    9. Double click on CD Color Printer II.
    10. Close the Chooser (If any windows pop up, just select OK)
    11. Select Print from the File menu in Photoshop. If a message tells you that some clipping will occur, simply press Proceed.
    12. Insert the recorded CD into the printer

      • Press the Open Tray button
      • Insert CD
      • Press the Open Tray button again to close it.
    13. Select Print.
    14. When the CD is finished, remove it from the tray and close the tray.
